Objectives

When PLK set out to launch its very first international school — HKCA PLK International School — on the historic HKCA grounds in Tin Hau, Hong Kong, they needed a complete international school branding solution built from the ground up. Cheddar Media was entrusted to craft a brand identity that would honour PLK’s respected heritage while signalling a bold, environmentally focused future for a new generation of learners.

As an authorised IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), HKCA PLK shares a commitment to high-quality, internationally minded education — empowering students to become curious, compassionate, and lifelong learners. Our international school branding approach sought to embody this philosophy, blending tradition with innovation and a passion for positive impact.

Approach

As an authorised IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), HKCA PLK shares a commitment to high-quality, challenging, and internationally minded education—empowering students to become curious, compassionate, and lifelong learners.

Our branding approach sought to embody this philosophy, blending tradition with innovation and a passion for positive impact. Collaborating closely with the founding team, we developed a comprehensive brand identity from the ground up. The logo was thoughtfully designed to nod to PLK’s storied legacy while highlighting the school’s environmental ethos, with inspiration drawn from the bamboo flourishing on the campus grounds. The visual identity was further brought to life through a vibrant colour palette, which was seamlessly integrated into classroom environments and school uniforms.

Brand Creation: Developed a distinctive logo and visual identity, balancing respect for PLK’s heritage with a fresh, eco-conscious perspective inspired by the school’s bamboo.
Brand Guidelines: Authored detailed brand guidelines to ensure clarity and consistency across all touchpoints.
Colour Palette: Created a fresh colour palette, incorporated throughout classrooms and uniforms to foster a cohesive and inspiring environment.
Signage & Environmental Graphics: Designed on-campus signage and wayfinding to bring the new brand to life throughout the school.
Collateral: Produced a suite of branded materials, including admissions packs, stationery, and event collateral.
Website: Designed and launched a responsive, user-friendly website to engage prospective families and support the new school community.

Impact

The new brand identity has positioned the school as a confident, unified presence within Hong Kong’s educational landscape. The integration of visual identity, colour, and environmental cues has fostered a strong sense of belonging and pride among students, staff, and families—honouring tradition while embracing a forward-thinking, sustainable vision.

For many years, it has been a privilege to work closely with HKCA PLK International School from its very beginnings, supporting a range of design and website management tasks.

Under the inspiring leadership of Founding Principal, David Priest, the school has flourished. We are proud to align minds and collaborate with heart alongside such a dedicated team, playing a part in building a truly special learning environment.
